US Eases Restrictions on High-Tech Equipment Exports to China
June 16, 2006
The US government recently announced that it will make changes to laws governing exports of sensitive high-tech equipment to China, in order to facilitate these exports and opening up new trade deals for US companies. The revisions will aim at improving surveillance on Chinese buyers of US exports, while allowing US vendors to sell high-tech equipment, such as semiconductor products, to China without applying for special licenses. Chinese companies must show documents regarding their nonproliferation record and guarantee the civilian use of the equipment.
